Salin Plus and Living with COPD

In the US, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, is the third-biggest killer after heart disease and cancer. COPD causes serious, long term disability and a whopping 150,000 Americans die from it every year. Shockingly for women, COPD is deadlier than breast and ovarian cancers combined.

November is COPD Awareness month, so we wanted to explore COPD and in turn how the Salin Plus Salt Therapy device can be used to manage symptoms.

COPD is an umbrella term for lung diseases and conditions including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and chronic asthma. It’s primarily caused by tobacco smoking; but can also be genetic, or the product of excessive/toxic air pollution and exposure to harmful workplace dusts, fumes and chemicals.

A common symptomatic marker of COPD is a long history of bronchitis, and or a persistent cough. As symptoms develop, coughing becomes more severe and frequent. Other symptoms can include:

  • Breathlessness
  • Wheezing
  • Chest tightness.

Unfortunately, COPD is not curable or reversible; but it is highly treatable!

Salt therapy, like that provided by the Salin Plus Salt Therapy device, is a natural rehabilitative solution for symptoms of COPD, and works well alongside prescribed medical methods, like steroid treatment.

In fact, the Salin Plus device is ideal for people who are symptomatic overnight. Our dry aerosol particles, sub-five microns in size, help by penetrating deep into the bronchial airways clearing mucous, bacteria and inhaled particles; reducing inflammation and allowing for clearer breathing.

Not only does salt therapy provide relief for COPD patients in the short term, but over time it reduces the severity of COPD symptoms as it strengthens immune function.

The Salin Plus Salt Therapy device appeals to COPD patients because it is:

  • Safe: it is compatible with medical treatments.
  • Natural
  • Non-invasive.
  • Can offset the need for/reliance on medication.
  • Improves quality of sleep.
  • Improves sense of wellbeing.
  • Improves overall quality of life.

Of course, other things you can do to manage COPD, as recommended by the National Heart Blood and Lung Institute include:

  • Taking medication as directed by your doctor or health care provider.
  • Enrol in a pulmonary rehabilitation program.
  • Avoid pollutants or fumes that can irritate your lungs.
  • Get flu and pneumonia shots as directed by your doctor or health care provider.

The Salin Plus Salt Therapy device can be purchased easily online. But for more information on the National COPD Awareness campaign, visit the NIH website.
