Yes! The Salin Plus device is suitable for infants and children of all ages. The general health and hygiene benefits that the Salin Plus device can bring to adults, apply to children and infants too.
The Salin Plus emits about 0.1g of natural rock salt over a 24 hour period, of which about 0.1mg is possibly inhaled. According to the FDA, the recommended daily salt allowance is between 1.5g and 2.3g, making the amount inhaled dose very low (about 4%) compared to the recommended daily allowance. Importantly too, the rock salt in Salin Plus contains no harmful additives and is 100% natural and safe to use.
If you have any concerns, we recommend you speak with your paediatrician or GP.
Yes! Just as the Salin Plus device is suitable for children of all ages, it can also benefit pregnant women, who often suffer from congestion and need to minimise the use of medication to treat the congestion where possible.

YES! If your pet suffers from a breathing or snoring problem, then they could also benefit from Salin Plus in the same way as humans, applying the device in the same manner.
Health and wellbeing
The Salin Plus device draws in air from the room through a fan and special micro-crystalline filter and disburses micro crystals of dry sodium chloride (salt), under 5 microns, into the indoor air for inhalation. The salt micro particles are able to penetrate deep into your lungs and clean, humidify, reduce inflammation and widen the airways based on the fact that the natural salt fluidizes the mucous, reduces edema from the mucosa lining the airways, while the anti-bacterial effects of salt help to reduce bacteria in your respiratory system and improve your well-being.
Salin Plus helps to clear mucous from the airways thus widening the airways. Users also report less night time waking, coughing, snoring and generally wake feeling more refreshed.
No. When you inhale Salin Plus purified air, the total amount of the inhaled salt is extremely small, potentially as low as 0.8mg over a 24 hour period. These quantities of salt reach the epithelium surface and there, they are eliminated with the mucous.
Many customers report improvements in their wellbeing after the first night. The Salin Plus device should be used every night for maximum benefit. There may be an increase in mucous expulsion soon after commencement of the therapy. This is due to the salt being inhaled and freeing the congestion.
All natural therapies take time and perseverance but with Salin Plus the majority of customers have enjoyed noticeable results. It is not a therapy to be used once or only when you are ill; it supports your wellbeing rather than a cure. You should use it intensively in the first month, day by day, and as long as you can. The more exposure, the more benefits you may get, remembering to change the salt filter every 4 months.
Yes! Because of its general health and hygiene effects, the Salin Plus device is recommended not only for people suffering from breathing problems, but also for healthy people, as you are less likely to attract an infection if you maintain your well-being, this can be achieved through breathing in purified air every night while you sleep and enjoying the therapeutic effect of the sodium ion.
The device affects the flow of secretions of the respiratory passages and strengthens the vibrations of the cilia, allowing the secretions to be removed quickly and respiratory passages to be cleared, bringing an easier and more comfortable breathing pattern. The Salin Plus device frequently helps in clearing the nasal passages, diminishes snoring and ensuring a more relaxed and therapeutic sleep.
Based on using the device every night, it is recommended to change the filter every 4 to 6 months. The filter may look the same after this period of time, as it will still be packed with salt, although you would typically expect the back of the filter to have collected a lot of dust, which it would have removed from the air during this time.
As the device is designed to break off microscopic particles of salt off the larger crystals, effectively after a 4 to 6 month period, it will have completed this process, and therefore the number of particles it is emitting into the air will have dramatically reduced, hence you will no longer be receiving the therapeutic effect. While the filter will be packed with large salt crystals, these are too large to inhale.
The 4 to 6 month period is a recommended guide only. If you suffer from a seasonal condition, such as hayfever, you may opt to replace more frequently during the hayfever season than you would in winter.
We recommend you use your device every night all year round and change your filter every 4 months. The effectiveness decreases over time and after 6 months has no therapeutic benefit.
The Salin Plus filter should be replaced every 4 months, based on nightly use. After 6 months of use it is unusable. This is due to the fact that after this period of time, while the filter is still full of rock salt, it is no longer dispersing the tiny salt particles that are required for inhalation and provide the therapeutic affect.
Optimal use of the device
Salin Plus should not be stored or used in a damp or high humidity environment, if the filter is exposed to moisture, it will damage the salt crystals and most likely the filter will need to be replaced. To overcome this issue, we recommend the use of a dehumidifier to bring the humidity levels down to the ideal level of 50% relative humidity. Also avoid areas with oily aerosols such as the kitchen.
When not in use, store the device in its original packaging in a cool and dry place. However, it is recommended to use Salin Plus all year round to maintain your well-being.
The only maintenance requirement for your Salin Plus device is to remember to replace the filter after 4 months use, after this period, the filter begins to lose its effectiveness as fewer salt crystals are dispersed into the air to provide the therapeutic effect and the filter will also begin to become blocked with dust and other airborne pollutants that it has removed from the air.
The bottom line is that using air conditioners or leaving the window/door open will affect the usefulness of your Salin Plus device, as the salt particles will be extracted from the room and poor air quality will continue to flow in, making it more difficult for your Salin device to control the air quality. However, as long as the device is located close to your head (i.e. facing you on your bed side locker less than 1 meter away), then you will still benefit from it. If you have a strong preference to leave the door or window open then you should continue to do so.
You can use Salin Plus in humid environments so long as your room is well insulated from the moisture outside. Avoid leaving your windows open when the humidity levels are high. Use a hygrometer to measure the relative Humidity level, try to keep it around 50 to 60%.
We do not recommend using Salin Plus in a damp room, as the salt filter absorbs the moisture in the air. You would be amazed how much moisture is in the air when the room is damp. If the filter absorbs this moisture, it acts like a sponge and ultimately can leak the water it has absorbed. The filter is much more effective when it is dry.
Having sold over 30,000 devices all across Australia in our first 4 years, we have seen this filter issue in around 1% of cases, typically in parts of Queensland where it can get very humid at certain times of the year. It comes down to the level of moisture in your home, which will vary depending on the structure of the home, and type of ventilation and air conditioning used.
If your home uses an evaporative air conditioner which emits moisture into the air that can cause moisture issues for the Salin Plus filter, whereas other types of air conditioners help to dry out the room and therefore help reduce the risk of any moisture issues.
The best way to protect your filter, is to remove the moisture from the air, and the best way to do this is with a dehumidifier. There are many different brands on the market to chose from. They are popular as they help reduce dust mite activity and mold spores which also effect respiratory conditions and no one likes a damp home.
In most cases, it will be fine to use the Salin Plus device in a room heated by an oil heater. Most oil heaters do not actually burn oil, as they use electricity to create the heat and the oil as a heat reservoir or buffer.
If you are not 100% about your oil heater and whether it does burn oil (and emit oily aerosols that could be absorbed by the salt in your Salin Plus device), please check with the heater manufacturer.

No. As it is a dry salt, there is no corrosive effect. The device has been on the market in Europe for 10 years, with no reported cases.
The dry sodium chloride (salt) aerosol has a considerable level of negative charge and this leads to a negative ionization of the air surrounding the salt ions. Also, the inner surfaces of the airway have a slight positive charge. Negatively charged particles of dry sodium chloride aerosol move in the lumen of the respiratory tract and settle more intensively compared to neutral particles. In addition, the negative charge increases aerosol stability.
